This past March JC and I made our way over to Barcelona for the long International Women’s Day weekend. JC was actually already in Barcelona for work, so Isabella and I made the flight from Berlin by ourselves. We had a great time enjoying the warmer weather and eating at some of our favorite restaurants, plus discovering new ones. If you want to know where to eat in Barcelona, read our list below for some of the top restaurants, cafes and bakeries in Barcelona. Be sure to give them a try the next time you are in the city!
Where to Eat in Barcelona for Breakfast & Brunch
Try Forn Mistral in Gràcia or near Plaza Catalunya for the best croissants in the city
This was our first time visiting Forn Mistral Gràcia on the recommendation of a friend, and wow, is it delicious. It is a panadería, serving only bread products. The Plaza Catalunya location also has coffee and indoor seating. At the Gràcia location you can only order your croissant to go and then find a bench nearby to gobble it down. They have plain croissants, croissants with butter, croissants with creme inside and croissants with chocolate inside. Our favorite was by far the creme filled. It is not sweet cream, but rather, more savory. If you want a light breakfast or need something to grab and go, Forn Mistral is the perfect place.
If you want a traditional Sunday brunch spot, look no further than Caravelle
This was not our first visit to Caravelle and will definitely not be our last. If you want a great Sunday brunch in the city, this is your place. They do not take reservations, but they do turnover the tables fairly quickly. So even if there is a long line, don’t be discouraged. I ordered the shakshuka (delicious!) and JC had the smoked pulled pork Bennie. Isabella actually slept the entire brunch so didn’t get to taste any food! Next time 🙂 And be sure to order the fresh-squeezed orange juice – it is fantastic!
If you want something sweet head to Boldú Donuts
While we didn’t have a chance this trip, one of our all-time favorite breakfast spots is Boldú for donuts. Their donuts are shaped like men (and sometimes women) and have delicious flavors and fillings, such a dulce de leche and nutella. If you are looking for a sugar high in the morning, Boldú is your spot. They have locations throughout the city.

Where to Eat in Barcelona for lunch
If you are craving some international fare, check out some of our favorite Peruvian restaurants in Barcelona
Barcelona has really delicious Peruvian restaurants (of course, for being outside of Peru). One of our favorites is Toma Ya, which we have visited in past trips. Our new fave, which we discovered this trip, is Pueblo Libre Taverna Peruana. We each ordered the lunch special which included a starter, main, drink and dessert, all for 16€. Unfortunately it doesn’t include chicha or Inka Cola for drinks, so we ordered those separately. I had the ceviche for my starter and a rice dish with mixed seafood for my main dish. JC had the causa con pollo (chicken), which he said was the best he’s ever had. Definitely a must visit for Peruvian food lovers!
If you are looking for delicious vegetarian or vegan food go to Fat Veggies in Barcelona
This last trip to Barcelona, JC received a recommendation for a restaurant called Fat Barbies. However, it is a meat-heavy burger place and I do not eat meat. Luckily, the restaurant also has a sister restaurant called Fat Veggies which is completely veggie friendly. We made a reservation for lunch with our two friends plus Isabella. JC and his friends who joined us are completely carnivorous, but they LOVED Fat Veggies. We ordered many tapas style dishes to share. Some favorites were cauliflower, patatas bravas, polenta and the curry. Definitely a must try for veggie and non vegetarians alike. The dishes are quite beautifully plated and creatively executed. The patatas bravas, for example, were not your usual looking patatas bravas (see photo below).
Where to Eat in Barcelona for Dinner
Check out some of our favorite Nikkei (Japanese and Peruvian fusion) restaurants for dinner in Barcelona
One of our favorite Nikkei restaurant in Barcelona is Robata, located in the L’Eixample neighborhood. We would highly recommend the ‘nikkei’ sushi roll which is made with a ‘leche de tigre’ sauce. Our other favorite Peruvian Japanese restaurant is appropriately named Nikkei 103. While you can order many dishes here besides sushi, such as ceviche and lomo saltado, to name a few, we usually order uramakis. Our favorite uramakis are: acevichado (#1 favorite), geisha and anticuchero.
And that rounds out our list of some of our top favorite restaurants and cafes in Barcelona. Do you think we covered all the best when it comes to where to eat in Barcelona, or did we miss some? Let us know in the comments below!
