JC and I have now flown twice to Thessaloniki in the last two months to relax and enjoy warm weather, amazing Greek food and beautiful beaches. With Greece being one of the only countries in Europe not on Germany’s COVID-19 risk list, it is the perfect getaway during these unprecedented times. A beach vacation is also great with a baby, especially if you do as we do and stay in an Airbnb right next to the beach. And Greece is great value for your money, making it even more appealing. Read below for our pick of the best beaches in Thessaloniki.
Best Beaches in Thessaloniki – Agia Triada
How to Get to Agia Triada
Agia Triada is 17 minutes driving from the Thessaloniki airport. We downloaded the app Beat, which is like Uber. With Beat, the trip should cost 12-15€. You can also simply hail a cab at the airport which will cost you 25-30€.
Why You Should Go to Agia Triada
Agia Triada is a very quiet beach town with very few tourists. If you are looking for a relaxing atmosphere with not too many people, Agia Triada is for you. It was the perfect vacation for us with our baby. Crystal clear waters, amazing seafood, beautiful sunrises and sunsets. You couldn’t ask for a more perfect end of summer escape with a baby. We went the first weekend of September and had perfect 31 degree Celsius sunny beach weather. You can read more about our trip to Agia Triada in our post here.

Where to Stay in Agia Triada
We stayed in an Airbnb right on the beach, which was super convenient, especially with the baby. We paid 60 EUR a night, which was a great value. If you’d rather stay in a hotel, we spotted this one while walking the boardwalk, which looked rather swanky. There isn’t much of a town in Agia Triada, so you will want to stay as close to the beach as possible, as all of the restaurants are there.
Where to Eat in Agia Triada
We ate almost every meal at Gondola Restaurant which is owned by the hosts of the Airbnb we stayed at. They have dorado for 10€, which JC ate every day, and the most delicious fried mussels you’ve ever eaten for 7€. We spent about 25€ for every meal for the two of us. It is definitely the best value restaurant in Agia Triada and the most delicious. Other restaurants will easily cost you double the price and are not half as good.
Best Beaches in Thessaloniki – Peraia
How to Get to Peraia
Peraia is the closest beach to the Thessaloniki airport, only 14 minutes driving. You can walk the boardwalk from Agia Triada to Peraia in about 1 hour. It is a nice walk with numerous restaurants and spots along the beach to take a quick dip.
Why You Should Go to Peraia
If you are looking for more restaurants, bars and nightlife, Peraia is a better bet. While we did not stay there, walking the boardwalk from Agia Triada, the difference between the two towns was immediately obvious. Peraia is very lively in comparison to sleepy Agia Triada. There is a ferry that connects Thessaloniki city with Peraia, making it the most easily accessible beach from the city without a car.
Best Beaches in Thessaloniki – Néa Kallikráteia
How to Get to Néa Kallikráteia
Néa Kallikráteia is about 25-30 minutes from the Thessaloniki airport by car. A cab will cost you between 35-45€.
Why You Should Go Néa Kallikráteia
We went to Néa Kallikráteia the first weekend of October. We were still able to enjoy some last days of summer, with 26 degree Celsius weather. Néa Kallikráteia has a bit larger and more developed town than Agia Triada. There is a plaza in the town center and even a main street with some restaurants. However, it is still a very small and quiet town. It is best suited for those looking for a quiet escape with beautiful sea and great seafood. If you are looking for nightlife and shopping, this is not the place for you.
Where to Stay in Néa Kallikráteia
We stayed in a two-bedroom Airbnb overlooking the ocean. We were two minutes walking from the beach and three minutes walking to the restaurants on the beach (there are only two), including our favorite restaurant Pirates. There are a few hotel options further along on the boardwalk, so you do have options if you don’t like Airbnb. However, at less than 50€ a night for an Airbnb in Néa Kallikráteia, it is definitely the best value option.
Where to Eat in Néa Kallikráteia
There are only two restaurants on the beach in Néa Kallikráteia and a small selection of restaurants in the center of town. After a quick assessment, we found the restaurant Pirates to be the best in town and continued to eat every meal there. With a beachfront location and the most delicious seafood linguine (AMAZING), dorado for 10€ and fried mussels, it is a must if you are in Néa Kallikráteia.
