Palma de Mallorca in Winter | Everything to See & Do

Last Updated on June 28, 2021

In October, when we spotted round-trip flights in February from icy Berlin to sunny Palma de Mallorca, an island in Catalonia, for 25 EUR, we didn’t have to think so hard before hitting the ‘purchase’ button. Crouched over my laptop in our apartment in Berlin, I recalled last year’s February in Berlin……..dark at 4 pm….. -13 celsius…… And Palma, well, it offered beaches, an average of 19 celsius in February, sun, fresh seafood, blue skies……I needn’t say more. Read below for our entire itinerary and everything to see and do in Palma de Mallorca in the winter months.

Day 1 in Palma de Mallorca

Spend the Evening Eating Tapas & Fresh Seafood

Once we landed in Palma Friday night, starving, we promptly hit up a local spot for ‘tapas’ called La Rosa Vermutería & Colmado.

For dinner we went to an amazing seafood restaurant called Restaurante la Parada del Mar. GO. HERE. We were too busy eating to take any pictures, but take my word for it. You get to pick all your fresh seafood before they cook it, and pay only for the weight of the seafood you select. I would recommend taking the tasting menu, as it is less than 30 EUR per person. You will end up spending that or more ordering a la carte (at least we did).

Day 2 in Palma de Mallorca

Check out Catedral-Basílica de Santa María

The next morning we took a tour of the city, checking out the spectacular Gaudi masterpiece, the Catedral-Basílica de Santa María.

While there are inside tours of the Cathedral, we decided to skip the tour and rent some bikes instead.

Rent Bikes on the Island of Mallorca

Mallorca is incredibly bike and pedestrian friendly with bike paths and walkways right on the beach. It’s definitely one of the best ways to navigate the island, get some exercise and see the sights all at the same time. Our destination, the harbor of Es Portixol, was about a 30 minute bike ride away.

*Quick Tip: If you can, I’d recommend renting a car, as the public transportation is not great, and there is no Uber on the island. If renting a car is not an option (we didn’t have our international driving permits at the time), biking is the next best thing.

On the bike route, we were also treated to some great beach entertainment…

A Word to the Wise — Make Restaurant Reservations Ahead of Time in Mallorca!

We stopped for a seafood lunch about 10 minutes biking past Es Portixol at an Italian restaurant called Almare. A tip to anyone traveling to Mallorca– make restaurant reservations ahead of time! Even for lunch. We got turned away from quite a few restaurants before we finally found a place that would take us.

Finish the evening with another round of tapas

That evening we hit up another tapas bar, called Bar España. It is a big hit with the locals and was appropriately hopping on a Saturday night. While we had to wait for a table, we were well tended to. With glasses of cava promptly in hand, and we didn’t have to wait long. We eventually took seats at the bar and took all the tapas the waiter/bartender recommended us. If you don’t know what to order I would advise doing the same!

Day 3 in Palma de Mallorca

Make a Day Trip to Sóller

The next day we made a day trip to Sóller, taking a 100-year old train to get there. You can read more about our trip in a separate post here.
